Advanced Study

Ambitious students will find many opportunities for advanced study at Loyola College. Many of our majors offer advanced or research projects, honors seminars or special course sequences for top students in the department. As an institution with a strong undergraduate focus, juniors and seniors often find opportunities to assist with faculty research projects and publications. In addition to programs found in specific majors, the College offers these general opportunities:

Honors Program

This program is available to students taking any major in the College. It consists of an advanced, multidisciplinary version of certain core curriculum courses and includes many cocurricular activities to enhance the educational experience. Students must apply to the Honors Program as a part of the freshman admission process.

Humanities Fellowships

Sponsored by the Center for Humanities, students engage in either research or creative projects over the summer and receive stipends for their work. In addition, the Center funds students as faculty research assistants during the school year.

Hauber Fellowships

Outstanding science students may apply to this prestigious research program for the summer between junior and senior years. Hauber Fellows receive a stipend and conduct in-depth research projects in close consultation with science faculty.

Sellinger Scholars

This honors program in the Sellinger School of Business and Management begins in the second semester of the freshman year. Declared business or accounting majors may apply after completing their first semester (15 credits) with a 3.5 college GPA or higher. Students take an enhanced curriculum and participate in special extracurriculars – both professional experiences and community service activities.
