The Common Text Program involves every member of the freshman class. Students are asked to read the same book over the summer prior to arriving on campus for the Fall Semester. On Labor Day, during orientation, members of the College – faculty and students alike – will gather in small groups to discuss the work. Then, Alpha Program, First-Year Experience (FE100) and Collegium classes will incorporate the Common Text selection into their coursework. Sometimes, the author of the book is invited to Loyola to lecture, or a film or dramatic production might accompany the campus-wide Common Text discussion.
