R.O.T.C. Curriculum

The R.O.T.C. program comprises a basic course and an advanced course — each two years in duration. Students can participate in the basic course without military obligation. Scholarship students will incur an obligation at the start of their sophomore year of classes. Scholarship students may major in any subject except theology. The military science department strives to instill a desire for personal and professional excellence in each cadet and builds upon the academic and moral foundation provided by the institution. The basic course introduces the student to the Army and concentrates on basic military skills, such as first aid and military customs. An emphasis on physical fitness and professional bearing teaches cadets poise and self-confidence. Leadership abilities are honed by engaging in small unit tactics.
The advanced course allows the student to capitalize on previous leadership training by placing students in
leadership positions.
Students are taught to plan and communicate within an organization. During these final two years of R.O.T.C. instruction, cadets progress from students to instructors as they assume responsibilities for training first-year students and sophomores enrolled in R.O.T.C. Participating R.O.T.C. cadets have the opportunity to compete for attendance at military schools such as Airborne, Air Assault and Northern Warfare.

Faculty

Instructors are highly qualified officers and non-commissioned officers, each with experience ranging from 10-22 years. All are specially selected for R.O.T.C. duty and are graduates of professional military schooling. Their focus remains the core institutional values predicted by strong leadership characteristics, traits and behaviors.
