The students’ cumulative GPA, LDAC performance, R.O.T.C. class standing, individual desires and current needs of the Army dictate whether or not a cadet will be commissioned in the reserves or active Army and what basic branch the lieutenant will serve. Newly commissioned second lieutenants selected for active duty are sent to school for their assigned field and then assigned to installations in the United States or overseas.
Lieutenants selected for reserve forces duty are brought on to active duty for their initial specialty training and then released to the reserves for assignment to a unit.
Army R.O.T.C. instruction provides the student with skills necessary for success in the war room or the board room. Numerous captains of industry served their apprenticeships as Army lieutenants.
