Between the junior and senior years, cadets who have contracted with the Army to accept an officer’s commission at graduation attend a five-week R.O.T.C. Leadership Development and Assessment Course at Fort Lewis, WA. The tiered training concept is used as cadets progress from simple individual tasks to complex group tasks requiring teamwork and interpersonal skills. Cadets are exposed to the mission of each of the Army’s 16 basic officer branches — from the combat branches such as Infantry and Armor to the combat support branches such as Military Police, to the combat service support branches like Transportation, Ordnance and Finance.
