Speech Pathology

The graduate programs in Speech-Language Pathology are dedicated to the education and development of superior professionals prepared for careers as speech-language pathologists. These programs, accredited by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) are designed to challenge pre-professionals academically, clinically, and personally and lead to licensure eligibility.

The college offers several program options:

Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology This is a two-year full-time program that includes a combination of academic coursework and clinical training. It is based on a school-professional model and employs an intensive approach to clinical training. The program offers the clinical practice experience starting with the Loyola College clinical settings and places advanced students in hospital, school and rehabilitation settings to work with complex clinical problems.

School Partnership Program This program provides school-based speech-language pathologists with a delivery option of coursework compacted into one day per week and clinical training taking place within the employment setting. Courses are offered to fulfill Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements in addition to ASHA licensure requirements for the Certificates of Clinical Competence for Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).

Continuing Professional Education This allows individuals with advanced degrees in speech-language pathology to continue their formal training and professional development. This department is approved as a Continuing Education Sponsor by ASHA and provides continuing professional study for both Maryland state licensure renewal and the ASHA Award for Continuing Education.

Loyola College has three modern, fully-equipped clinics where students gain supervised clinical experience with speech language, and hearing impaired children and adults. The clinics include:

  • The Columbia Speech and Language Center
  • The Timonium Speech and Literacy Center
  • The Margaret A. McManus Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic
